Thesis Award (ENG)

Thesis Award  2020
Every other year the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society (KNCV) awards the PhD Thesis Prize to the candidate who wrote and defended the best PhD thesis in the field of environmental chemistry, geochemistry, environmental toxicology or environmental technology. The award consists of a certificate and a money prize of € 1500 on behalf of the board of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society (KNCV) and the board of the Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology Section (MCT). The Prize will be awarded by the board of the KNCV to the candidate nominated by a selection committee set up by the board of the MCT Section. The selection committee consists of environmental chemists, geochemists, environmental toxicologists and environmental technologists. The award ceremony will take place during the MilieuChemTox 2021 Symposium on 21 January 2021.

The call is open for PhD theses defended between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2020. Candidates who would like to apply should have performed their research for the greater part in the Netherlands and defended their PhD thesis at a Dutch university. Dutch as well as foreign candidates may apply.  To be considered, the candidates should have performed their research in the field of environmental chemistry, geochemistry, environmental toxicology or environmental technology and should have contributed to a better understanding of environmental processes and/or a sustainable solution for environmental issues. In addition, the candidate should meet the following requirements:

  • Excellent skills as independent scientific researcher in environmental chemistry, geochemistry, environmental toxicology or environmental technology, concerning experimental, model technical and/or theoretical capacities.
  • Scientific originality and creativity.
  • Scientific productivity.
  • The capacity to communicate scientific results with a broad public.

Candidates who would like to apply for the MCT PhD award should submit a PDF of their PhD thesis,  their curriculum vitae and a short motivation  letter to the chairman of the selection committee:

The deadline for PhD thesis submission is extended to Wednesday 15th of July 2020
The six candidates that are nominated from the preselection, should submit seven copies of their PhD thesis to the above mentioned address and be available during the symposium in January 2021 to give a presentation.

Third parties like (co)promotors, department heads and others are encouraged to  draw the attention of the selection committee to potential candidates. Further information may be obtained from the chairman of the selection committee.
